A former Bedfordshire police officer, Paedophile, John Nichols who confessed to creating obscene photos of children and orchestrating meetings with minors for sexual purposes would have been terminated had he not quit, stated a police department.

John Nichols, 54, an inspector with Bedfordshire Police, was sentenced to two and a half years in prison in August at Inner London Crown Court.

The police panel determined that his actions constituted gross misconduct.

John Nichols has been added to a prohibited list, barring his re-entry.

During the hearing at the force’s headquarters in Kempston, the panel determined that John Nichols, from Elstow near Bedford, violated the Standards of Professional Behaviour regarding honesty and discreditable behaviour.

Chief Constable Garry Forsyth stated: “Offences of this nature constitute a profound violation of public trust in police officers, thereby inevitably tarnishing the reputation of the profession.”

“The public would be appalled by the actions of former Inspector John Nichols, which will undoubtedly tarnish the integrity and reputation of law enforcement.”

He stated that there is no position inside the force for individuals who conduct themselves in such a manner.

John Nichols had previously confessed to the charges that occurred in January.

The Metropolitan Police conducted an inquiry and discovered 39 illicit photos on his devices.

It also discovered that he had sent sexually explicit and graphic dialogues in online chat rooms.
