One of Hampshire’s top detectives, Roger Wood, had sex with two junior colleagues – one of whom was vulnerable, a misconduct hearing was told. The hearing is to see if he should be sacked or not. It is unlikely that he will face criminal charges though.

Former Detective Chief Inspector Roger Wood, who helped investigate murders and other major crimes across the county, swapped a series of suggestive messages with a trainee police staff investigator.

During the exchange, the woman – identified only as Person A – sent him photographs of her partially naked body.

Roger Wood, who was married, talked about him becoming her “sugar daddy” and they both discussed the possibility of having sex in the shower.

The pair ended up making love at her home, after which he told her: “You’ve just had sex with a DCI,” the hearing was told.

Giving evidence from behind a screen, Person A said they met for the first time when she attended a training session at Netley in 2023.

Asked about her mental health she said: “I had a lot going on and was struggling with depression and anxiety. The catalyst was a relationship that had broken down.”

Person A said she bumped into Mr Roger Wood at the Basingstoke Police and Investigation Centre the following day.

Roger Wood told her “I’m stalking you” and then winked at her, the hearing was told. She later contacted him on LinkedIn, saying: “My turn to stalk you.”

The pair began to exchange flirtatious messages and continued the next day, when Person A sent Mr Wood photographs of herself in a state of partial undress.

Mr Roger Wood told her: “If we were together, I would be your sugar daddy.” He also extolled the virtues of having sex in the shower, adding: “I go loco for blondes,” it was claimed.

On another occasion Mr Roger Wood drove to her home, arriving in the middle of the afternoon.

Person A said they talked about work, the relationship that had broken down, and her father’s drink problem. She told the hearing: “He knew everything that was going on.”

After moving from the kitchen to the lounge they went upstairs and had consensual sex, after which Mr Wood told her: “You’ve just slept with a DCI.”

Asked about what happened next, Person A said: “He lay there for about five minutes, then got up, got dressed, and left. After that his demeanour really changed. He said I’d got the wrong idea.”

Person A said she later left Hampshire police, partly as a result of Mr Roger Wood’s behaviour towards her.

“I couldn’t bear the thought of him walking into the office one day. I didn’t want to see him – it was the thought of what he’d done.”

Person A said her mental health had improved since then but tearfully told the hearing: “I guess it doesn’t look like it right now.”

Mr Roger Wood joined Hampshire police in 2007, becoming a highly-respected officer and a nationally renowned expert.

But the hearing was told that he boasted about his rank and importance and bragged about going out for dinner with the Chief Constable.
