A Paedophile, Melvin Denton, described as ‘abhorrent’ who sexually molested a kid for three years was sentenced to ten years in jail today (Tuesday, 1 April) at Grimsby Crown Court.
Melvin Denton, 79, of Windsor Road in Cleethorpes, entered a plea of not guilty to four charges of indecency with a child and seven charges of indecent assault over a series of historical sexual acts against a girl from 1997 to 2000.
After a four-day trial, a jury unanimously convicted him on four counts of gross indecency and five counts of indecent assault against a girl under 14, resulting in a ten-year prison sentence.
Officer in the case Detective Constable Megan Sherwin from our Protecting Vulnerable Persons Unit said: “I would like to start by commending the woman for her bravery in coming forward and thanking her for the patience she has displayed during the entirety of this investigation.
“Whilst the result will not take the pain and suffering away, I hope that it will provide the family some reassurance in knowing that Denton will finally face the consequences of his abhorrent actions.
“Melvin Denton was a manipulative man who took advantage of an innocent young girl’s trust in him, all for his own sexual gratification, over many years.
“We take reports of sexual assault and sexual offences extremely seriously and we will continue to seek justice for those who have suffered at the hands of such incomprehensible crimes.
