Benjamin Bottomley West Yorkshire Police Rapist

A West Yorkshire Police officer rapist, Benjamin Bottomley, has been convicted of sexual offences committed while off-duty.

PC Benjamin Bottomley, 23, residing in the Kirklees district, has been convicted of rape and sexual assault by penetration after a trial at Sheffield Crown Court.

The allegations pertain to acts perpetrated against a single adult female victim. The rape offence transpired before PC Benjamin Bottomley joined West Yorkshire Police, and the sexual assault by penetration offence occurred during his tenure as a student officer. Both incidents were reported to the police subsequent to his induction into West Yorkshire Police.

Detective Chief Superintendent Tanya Wilkins, Head of the Professional Standards Directorate of West Yorkshire Police, stated: “These allegations against a serving police officer were profoundly serious, prompting immediate suspension ON FULL PAY from duty upon the initiation of the investigation in June 2023.”

The victim has demonstrated remarkable bravery in reporting these offences. We acknowledge the difficulty of reporting such offences under any circumstances, particularly when the perpetrator is employed in law enforcement.

I anticipate that the investigation and ensuing prosecution will demonstrate that law enforcement and associated entities will act, irrespective of the offender’s profession.

“We are dedicated to safeguarding women from violence and sexual assault.” PC Benjamin Bottomley has exhibited a contempt for the victim’s right to consent and, in addition to whatever custodial sentence imposed, he will now be subject to additional requirements as a convicted sex offender.

“We will proceed with misconduct proceedings aimed at barring PC Benjamin Bottomley from any future role in policing.” [EVEN THOUGH BOTTOMLEY HAS BEEN CONVICTED THE POLICE STILL NEEED TO HOLD AN INTERNAL HEARING TO DECIDE WHETHER TO SACK HIM, YOU COULD NOT MAKE IT UP.]

PC Benjamin Bottomley is scheduled for sentencing on 11 June.

UPDATE 13.06.25

A West Yorkshire Police officer has been imprisoned after being found guilty of rape and sexual assault with penetration.

PC Ben Bottomley, 23, residing in Kirklees District, was sentenced today (Wednesday, 11 June) at Sheffield Crown Court to four years of imprisonment for rape and one year for sexual assault by penetration, to be served concurrently.

PC Bottomley will be required to comply with the stipulations of the Sex Offenders Register for life.

His conviction resulted from an inquiry conducted by the Professional Standards Directorate of West Yorkshire Police regarding off-duty offences reported following his induction into the Force.

He has been suspended from duty since the commencement of this investigation ON FULL PAY. An expedited misconduct hearing is scheduled for next month, aimed at adding him on the College of Policing’s Barred list, so precluding him from future work in law enforcement.
