Alexandru Tapurin, a Norwich taxi driver rapist has been imprisoned following his sexual attack of three ladies in his cab.
Alexandru Tapurin, a 36-year-old resident of Tizzick Close in Norwich, pleaded guilty to three charges of sexual assault involving three victims from January 19th to January 22nd, 2024.
The initial victim had been in a pub in the city and was being transported home in Alexandru Tapurin’s vehicle during the early hours of 20 January. During this time, he persistently requested sexual intercourse from her and coerced her into engaging in sexual activity.
Subsequently, the second individual arranged transportation through a mobile application and was picked up by Alexandru Tapurin in the downtown area shortly before midnight.
While on the drive, Alexandru Tapurin veered off onto a side road and persistently made unwelcome approaches towards the woman, both verbally and physically.
Following her repeated rejections, Alexandru Tapurin started the engine and transported her to her residence.
Alexandru Tapurin picked up the third victim in his taxi during the early hours of 21 January.
Upon arriving at her location, Alexandru Tapurin once again made unwelcome advances, both physically and verbally, and told his victim, “I will encounter you again,” as she exited the vehicle.
Alexandru Tapurin was sentenced to 21 months in jail at Norwich Crown Court on Friday, September 6th.
In addition, he received a sexual harm prevention order (SHPO) and was added to the sex offenders register.
DS Ricki Peake who led the investigation said: “It goes without saying that women should be able to rely on a taxi to get them home safely whether they are on a night out with friends, in the city, or finishing a shift at work.
“To find themselves in a vehicle with someone they should be able to trust is terrifying and a huge breach of trust. I commend the victims for their bravery and strength in coming forward.
