The Ferryhill Rapist, Alexander Neil Dixon, 38, a predatory assailant, enticed a woman into an alleyway, assaulted her sexually, and subsequently emitted a “psychotic, high-pitched laugh.”

He traversed the Bishop Auckland vicinity in search of a prospective victim when he observed the woman strolling alone on October 27 of the previous year.

Alexander Neil Dixon stopped his vehicle, exited, and initiated a conversation with the victim, then enticed her into an alleyway where he restrained her against a wall and sexually assaulted and raped her, despite her persistent pleas for him to cease.

Alexander Neil Dixon left laughing, and his terrified victim then phoned the police.

Within 48 hours, he was identified by officers, arrested and later charged with rape and sexual assault.

Due to the “overwhelming” evidence secured by police, Alexander Neil Dixon pleaded guilty to both offences.

Alexander Neil Dixon, of Newlands Rise, Ferryhill, was handed a 15-year prison sentence – nine years of which must be served in custody, while six will be spent on licence – at Durham Crown Court.

The victim was praised by police for her “tremendous strength”.
