Alwen Hughes, the spouse of accused paedophile television personality Rolf Harris has passed away at the age of 93, one year following her husband’s death. She was never charged for enabling her husband to abuse many young girls.

Alwen Hughes stood by Harris during his sentencing to five years and nine months in prison for 12 indecent attacks on four minors between 1968 and 1986.

Former children’s entertainer Rolf Harris succumbed to neck cancer on May 10 of the previous year.

Alwen Hughes is thought to have spent her last days in the £7 million property where the couple formerly resided in Bray, Berkshire.

Alwen Hughes passed away on August 15, and her death certificate indicates that she succumbed to a stroke, having endured the vulnerabilities of advanced age and vascular dementia.

Neighbours said Alwen Hughes had spent her final years “bed-bound with no quality of life” and said they had seen relatives coming to the house to pick up personal belongings.

She was married to Rolf Harris for 65 years before his death.

Alwen Hughes was born on December 26, 1931, in north London. She is said to have grown up in Wales.

The jeweller and sculptor met Rolf Harris at art school, and the pair married in 1958.

Alwen Hughes attended Harris’s initial trial every day alongside their daughter Bindi.

Paedophile Rolf Harris served nearly three years in prison before being released on licence in 2017 and lived a reclusive life afterwards before his death.
