Amaniel Tewelde Salford Rapist
Amaniel Tewelde Salford Rapist

A guy, Amaniel Tewelde Salford Rapist, has received a 15-year prison sentence for rape and a prolonged campaign of coercion and control against a woman.

Amaniel Tewelde (01/11/1987), residing on Gerald Road, Salford, was sentenced to 15 years following his conviction in November for two counts of rape, controlling and coercive behaviour, and perverting the course of justice. He was also issued a restraining order.

The Manchester Minshull Street Court was informed that in 2014, Amaniel Tewelde initially encountered a woman in the Salford region, thereafter perpetrating a severe sexual assault against her, despite her pleas for him to desist.

Subsequently, a like situation transpired. The victim felt apprehensive when he initiated contact, concerned about his potential reaction to her rejection. Amaniel Tewelde thereafter assaulted her sexually, despite repeated pleas for him to desist.

In the subsequent weeks and months, Tewelde persisted in his controlling and coercive behaviour, threatening to withdraw his affection and presence if she refused to engage in sexual relations with him. The woman feared for her life due to Amaniel Tewelde’s aggressive attitude if she did not comply with him.

During a visit to Blackpool that year, he assaulted her again. His victim failed to comprehend the predicament she encountered, resulting in her withdrawal and lack of confidants to discuss her circumstances.

Following the woman’s courageous disclosure in September 2020, Amaniel Tewelde was arrested and charged after a comprehensive investigation conducted by officers in Salford’s district.

Detective Sergeant Graham Parry, from GMP’s Salford district, said: “Amaniel Tewelde’s disgusting and manipulative actions led to a woman feeling unsafe and with nowhere to turn to, leaving her isolated.

“By alternating between caring and controlling, Tewelde left the woman feeling trapped and I am glad he is now finally behind bars where he belongs. I would like to commend DC Evans and DC Taylor, who have been instrumental in getting this case over the line.

“After years of suffering abuse at the hands of him, this woman was finally allowed a voice. She was listened to and got to tell her story in a court of law where justice could finally be served. This has been an incredibly tough journey for her, but we are all so thankful for her perseverance as this has allowed her to have a safer future for her and her family.

“I would urge anyone who has been the victim of any form of sexual abuse to get in touch with us. You will be listened to, we will investigate all reports, and we will do all we can to support you.”
