A caretaker, Angelo Regis Bridport Rapist, who sexually attacked a woman in her 80s at her residence in the Bridport region has been incarcerated.
Angelo Regis, 37, from Bridport, was sentenced at Bournemouth Crown Court on Friday, January 31, 2025, after pleading guilty to charges of attempted rape, sexual assault by penetration, and sexual assault by touching.
He received a sentence of 12 years in prison and was indefinitely registered as a sex offender.
The defendant was employed as a care assistant throughout the offence on Monday, June 3, 2024.
He visited the victim, in her 80s, at her residence as part of her care package in the morning. Upon her departure to the toilet, he secured the front door before to pursuing her.
Angelo Regis thereafter sexually abused his victim in the shower before attempting to rape her in her bedroom.
The susceptible victim reported the event to the police two days later, resulting in Angelo Regis’s arrest on Thursday, June 6, 2024.
He refuted the allegations throughout the interview, and detectives later acquired DNA evidence connecting him to the crime. He was indicted the subsequent day.
Detective Constable Lucy Johnson, of Dorset Police County Safeguarding Hub, said: “I want to thank the victim for her support during this investigation and praise her for the strength she has shown in coming forward and reporting this matter.
“Angelo Regis took advantage of his position and the vulnerabilities of his victim to subject her to a truly terrifying and horrific sexual assault.
“I hope this case demonstrates that we will do all we can to investigate offences of this nature and hold offenders accountable for their actions and that we will ensure victims are fully supported throughout.
“I also want to thank the Crown Prosecution Service and partner agencies for their continued support during the police Investigation and prosecution.”
