A Basildon Paedophile, Arlanzo Sherwood, who perpetrated egregious crimes against a susceptible youngster has been sentenced to 11 years in prison following a trial that spanned six years.
Arlanzo Sherwood, residing on Clayburn Circle in Basildon, was found guilty of child sexual crimes and voyeurism after a nine-day trial at Basildon Crown Court last month.
The jury convicted the 46-year-old on two charges of assault involving penetration of a minor, one charge of engaging in sexual behaviour with a juvenile, and one charge of voyeurism.
Arlanzo Sherwood was acquitted of two charges of assault by penetration and one charge of sexual conduct with a minor.
The Quest unit of Essex Police, which investigates sexual offence claims involving child victims, commenced enquiries in July 2019 following reports from a family friend of the survivor.
After a two-and-a-half-year inquiry during which Arlanzo Sherwood either declined to comment or refuted the claims, he was charged in October 2021.
In court, the survivor recounted to the jury the abuse she endured at the hands of the perpetrator. She had concealed it but disclosed the incident to a friend and subsequently to her mother.
Yesterday, at the same court, Arlanzo Sherwood received an 11-year prison term for both assault convictions, to be served concurrently.
Arlanzo Sherwood received an eight-year prison sentence for the sexual activity offence and an additional 18 months for voyeurism. These will likewise be served concurrently with the 11-year sentence.
Arlanzo Sherwood was sent to the sex offenders’ registry indefinitely and issued a lifetime Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
