On October 17, 2020, Balbinder Singh was expelled from his partner’s residence after she overheard another woman refer to him as “babe” during a phone conversation while he was in the bath. The 29-year-old thereafter travelled to a street in South Shields to deter his then-partner from approaching the woman with whom he had been conversing on the phone.
Upon reaching the street, Balbinder Singh, residing at Saint Jude’s Terrace, South Shields, donned in a dressing gown, “lashed out” with a screwdriver obtained from his former girlfriend, inflicting a harm to her arm. He was subsequently apprehended.
Balbinder Singh admitted guilt to the possession of a bladed weapon and assault resulting in actual bodily injury. Singh received a 20-month prison term, which is suspended for two years. He is required to accomplish 60 days of rehabilitation and 100 hours of unpaid labour. He must also finish a Building Better Relationships program.
