Cail Sweetland has been jailed for sexual assaulting a woman in a Cardiff hotel. Cail Sweetland, 24, punched, kicked, and bit the victim during the violent attack which caused her a bleed on the brain.
He pleaded guilty to sexual assault by penetration, assault causing actual bodily harm and unlawful wounding. He has been sentenced at Cardiff Crown Court to 8 years and 1 month in prison.
During the hearing on Monday, November 1, Cail Sweetland from Caerphilly, was also made the subject of an indefinite restraining order which prevents him from ever contacting the victim.
The victim cannot be identified for legal reasons.
Officer in the case Detective Constable Anthony Hurley, from South Wales Police, said: “The victim had a glass bottle thrown at her head, causing her to lose consciousness, was stripped naked and had alcohol poured over her to add humiliation to her pain.
“This horrendous ordeal which took place over a four-hour period has understandably had a profound impact on the victim physically and mentally.
“Her wellbeing was at the heart of our investigation, and I would like to commend her bravery in fully participating in the investigation and daunting court process.
“We hope the outcome brings some comfort and allows her to rebuild her confidence. No-one deserves to be subjected to this level of violence. We are committed to protecting women from violence, and to keeping our capital safe.”
