Married father of four Azad Miah was sentenced to 15 years in prison for soliciting sexual acts from minors as young as 12 while operating a brothel.
Azad Miah, operator of a takeaway establishment in Carlisle, exploited vulnerable females, specifically those from impoverished origins and one who was a heroin user.
On May 14, 2012, Azad Miah received a nine-year sentence for four counts of soliciting the sexual services of a minor from 2006 to 2009, one year for maintaining a brothel from 2005 to 2011, and five years for five counts of encouraging child prostitution.
In concluding the trial, the court stated that Azad Miah could have faced justice sooner had the testimonies of witnesses, including a 12-year-old girl, been regarded with the seriousness they warranted when initially presented.
No-one else from the Carlisle Grooming Gang was prosecuted!
