Cecil Thorn, who sexually assaulted a minor, was extradited from New Zealand to face legal proceedings but remained silent.
The 48-year-old, Cecil Thorn, has maintained a “vigil of silence” since disembarking from a plane in February of the previous year.
That entailed being silent in his defence at a trial when the courageous victim recounted his recurrent abuse.
Cecil Thorn, from Wirral, was convicted of three charges of sexual assault and three counts of inducing a girl to participate in sexual activity during a trial last month.
The court noted that this was his second conviction for child molestation, having previously received an eight-year sentence in 2013 for analogous acts, again in Wirral.
Cecil Thorn, previously of Wirral and currently residing on Favona Road, Auckland, was sentenced to 10 years in prison, with an additional one-year extended licence period.
This indicates he will serve a minimum of five years in prison before he is eligible to seek for parole.
