A Texas Pedophile dad, Charles Lajuan Evans, charged with transferring funds to his daughter through PayPal in return for “sexual nature” photographs justified his conduct to a detective by asserting that the child was 17, the legal age of consent in Texas, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.
Charles Lajuan Evans, 42, faces charges of child grooming, classified as a third-degree felony, according to online incarceration records.
On March 31, 2025, a detective from Lacy Lakeview conferred with a police officer from Connally Independent School District over alarming text messages received by a student from her biological father.
On April 1, the detective conferred with the victim, who disclosed that her father had recently been interested in her life.
The arrest warrant indicates that the father solicited her to send images of herself engaging in daily activities in return for monetary compensation through PayPal.
The detective stated in the affidavit, “An examination of the text message exchanges revealed that the defendant, Charles Lajuan Evans, was increasingly soliciting sexual photographs, including a request for evidence of the victim showering.”
The arrest warrant additionally alleges that Charles Lajuan Evans would comment on certain images of the victim, declaring her to be “fine as hell.”
The man would remit varying sums of money to the girl, and when she enquired about receiving a modest amount for a single shot, Charles Lajuan Evans responded, “It’s akin to art.” The text asserts that certain paintings has varying values.
The youngster ultimately referred to Charles Lajuan Evans as a paedophile, and in one communication, Charles Lajuan Evans said remarked to the girl, “You do not perceive me as a parent, thus there is no necessity for us to converse unless you are embodying the [expletive] your mother raised you to be.”
The girl severed all text message communications with her father at that juncture.
On April 8, the detective discovered that the girl had re-established contact with her father.
In the ensuing text messages, Charles Lajuan Evans told the girl he wished to perform oral sex on her and she once again blocked him, the arrest warrant states.
Evans then messaged his daughter’s mother and told her he wanted to buy the girl an iPad. “Tell her to pretend I’m a stepdad,” Charles Lajuan Evans allegedly told the woman.
The arrest warrant states the detective reviewed PayPal records which “showed numerous payments to the victim child on her mother’s accounts,” with some of the payments including an attached note asking, “where is my pic?”
On June 10, the detective spoke with Charles Lajuan Evans over the phone to discuss the allegations. When confronted about the text messages, Charles Lajuan Evans “repeatedly excused his actions by stating she is 17 years old, which is the legal age of consent in Texas.”
Charles Lajuan Evans also told the detective this should not even be a criminal investigation.
When told he was going to be charged with child grooming, Charles Lajuan Evans allegedly replied, “How the [expletive] can this be child grooming when I only came when, when, when she was of age?”
Charles Lajuan Evans was arrested on July 2 and remains behind bars.
