Chelmerton Avenue attempted child abduction
Chelmerton Avenue attempted child abduction

A police probe is underway in Chelmsford after a boy was almost grabbed by a person on a residential road in broad daylight. The boy was walking in Chelmerton Avenue in the Essex city before 9am on Thursday (December 5).

Essex Police said the victim was walking in Chelmerton Avenue, close to Dorset Avenue, between 8:20am and 8:35am. It’s reported that the boy was then approached by a man who attempted to grab him by the arms.

A woman who appears to have witnessed the incident intervened and the man left the area. He is described as six-feet tall, bald but with some hair around the sides of his head and a brown beard which was brought together in a pony tail.

He is aged in his 40s and was wearing a grey Nike jumper, a blue zip-up coat with a fur hood, black and red Nike Air Jordan trainers. He is also reported to have had a tattoo on his right cheek. [Editor’s Note: Police fail to mention if he is black or white. If we had top guess, we would say the man is white because of the brown beard and pony tail]

An Essex Police spokesperson said: “We’d encourage anyone with information on the incident to please come forward, specifically the woman who appears to have intervened.
