A former Police Scotland officer, Sex Offender Christopher Wylie, has been sentenced to seven years in prison for perpetrating ongoing abuse against a lady, which included non-consensual sexual acts.
Christopher Wylie, 47, additionally proposed sexual intercourse with the victim to another man in return for narcotics.
Christopher Wylie strangled the lady and attacked her while wielding a knife during a period of abusive behaviour that lasted 20 months.
A judge at the High Court in Edinburgh described the behaviour directed at the victim as “appalling, sustained, and humiliating.”
Judge Michael O’Grady KC informed Christopher Wylie: “Such conduct is likely to result in a substantial term of incarceration.”
Christopher Wylie was previously convicted of perpetrating a pattern of abusive behaviour that endangered the woman’s life from April 2019 to December 2021 in a Highland village and other locations.
During the incident, he seized the victim’s cell phone, perused her texts, and persistently contacted and messaged her.
Christopher Wylie additionally threatened self-harm and transmitted images of self-inflicted injuries to her.
He concealed the woman’s car keys and phone, compelling her to email him photographs to verify her location.
During the assault, Christopher Wylie pounced at the woman and grappled with her while wielding a knife, causing her to tumble to the floor.
Christopher Wylie grasped the woman by the neck and constricted it, impeding her respiration, while simultaneously covering her mouth and nose with his hands.
Christopher Wylie, who enlisted in the police force in 2009, engaged in non-consensual sexual relations with the woman and proposed to another man that he might have intercourse with her in exchange for narcotics.
He refuted the charges in a prior trial at the High Court in Inverness but was subsequently convicted by the jury.
Detective Constable, Police Scotland Emma Ellis stated, “I hope this sentence offers some degree of closure for his victim.”
“Sexual abuse is unacceptable in our communities, and we urge anyone experiencing abuse or knowing someone who is to reach out for assistance.”
Defence attorney Brian McConnachie KC stated that Christopher Wylie consistently upheld his position, despite the jury’ evident dismissal of his narrative.
Mr. McConnachie stated that Christopher Wylie was effectively a first-time offender but was misusing alcohol throughout the commission of the offence.
The defence attorney stated that Christopher Wylie was evaluated as presenting a minimal chance of reoffending.
He stated that during his detention, he was transferred from Inverness jail to a prison in Dumfries, and that his profession as a police officer rendered “his period in custody more challenging than that of an ordinary individual.”
Mr. McConnachie stated, “He fully acknowledges that only one sentence is applicable, which is a custodial sentence.”
Christopher Wylie has been registered as a sex offender.
