A 64-year-old man, Clifford Hayes, from Nottingham has been sentenced to six years in prison for sexually abusing two women and violating his Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
After an investigation by the British Transport Police, Clifford Hayes, born on October 9, 1960, of no permanent address, was convicted after a trial and jailed at Nottingham Crown Court on Friday, March 14.
He received a six-year jail term along with a four-year licence extension, necessitating that he serve a minimum of two-thirds of his sentence prior to eligibility for parole.
The court was informed that Hayes sexually attacked two women on the same day last year, hardly hours apart.
On Monday, 7 October, at 8:44 AM, on the East Midlands train from Nottingham to Liverpool, a 27-year-old woman was seated when Hayes occupied the adjacent seat.
Clifford Hayes subsequently commenced masturbating beneath the coat on his lap, before to sexually abusing her.
Later that same day on the 4.43pm East Midlands train from Sheffield to Liverpool, Hayes sat next to another woman in her twenties.
He again placed his coat over his lap before sexually assaulting her.
Clifford Hayes was identified through CCTV and was later arrested at Nottingham Railway Station.
Investigating officer Detective Constable Lee Walker from Doncaster CID said “Clifford Hayes’ sentence reflects the danger he poses to women and the seriousness of his actions. Without the bravery of his victims coming forward and supporting the investigation we would not have been able to secure this sentencing.
“We take all reports of sexual offences and unwanted sexual behaviour seriously and will support victims throughout our investigations.
