Colin Dean Evans committed a ‘brutal sexual assault’ on a woman leaving her with ‘trauma’ injuries

The father-of-two carried out the assault in Accrington and was ‘deaf to her pleas to stop’.

The 32-year-old, formerly of Fielding Lane, Accrington, was found guilty on a majority verdict of sexual assault after a nine-day trial at Burnley Crown Court and cleared of two other counts of sexual assault relating to the same incident.

Prosecutor Alaric Bassano told the jury: “She screamed in pain and pleaded for him to stop. He ignored her and carried on.

“As she tried to move away he restrained her and continued. He caused her excruciating pain.

“He was deaf to her pleas to stop and he suppressed her screams by placing his hand over her mouth.”

Following the incident Evans ‘snatched her phone away from her’ to stop her contacting the police.

When interviewed by police, Evans said he had engaged in ‘consensual sex’ with the complainant.

In a victim personal statement, she describes the Evans’s conduct as ‘brutal’ and her physical injuries as ‘horrific’.

Judge Sara Dodd described it as a ‘brutal sexual assault’ and sentenced Evans to seven years in prison.

Evans, now of Whittaker Street, Blackburn, was also given an indefinite restraining order and ordered to sign the sex offenders register for life.
