A “depraved” Shotton Paedophile Colin Eamens enticed young boys to his residence with the allure of confections and carbonated beverages before “stripping them of their innocence”. Colin Eamens, 66, of Nelson Street in Shotton, Flintshire, conducted a campaign of abuse that lasted five decades despite presenting himself as a reputable member of the community.
Colin Eamens, 66, confessed to 17 charges of sexually abusing six underage male adolescents from the late 1970s through the 2010s. He received a 17-year sentence at Mould Crown Court on Friday.
Prosecutor Brian Treadwell stated that Colin Eamens would frequently have youngsters visit and would often supply them with smokes, booze, candy, and carbonated beverages. The prosecutor stated that Colin Eamens would “procure items” such as gaming consoles and a Sodastream machine to “entice” minors to congregate at his residence.
Colin Eamens preyed upon the lads from his early twenties until his mid-fifties.
He established friendships with the victims and their parents and was perceived as a “family friend.” Occasionally, some of the youngsters he would later abuse spent the night at his residence.
One victim reported that Colin Eamens engaged in a sexual act upon himself in the presence of the youngster, which developed into a “habitual” behaviour. The court was informed that the youngster experienced sexual acts done on him on no fewer than 30 occasions.
Colin Eamens subsequently assaulted him on Christmas Day in the 1980s when he was merely 15 years old. The abuse persisted for an additional two years.
Mr. Treadwell stated that Colin Eamens sexually assaulted an additional five youngsters over a span of 30 years. The court heard that he engaged in sexual actions in the presence of the youngsters and, on certain occasions, solicited them with monetary compensation for sexual favours.
Duncan Bould, in defence, stated that Colin Eamens was “very candid” in admitting his acts and recognises that a “substantial” prison sentence looms ahead.
Judge Rhys Rowlands sentenced Colin Eamens to a cumulative term of 17 years for his “disturbing” acts. He commended their “courage” in stepping forward.
He stated: “It is evident that in your youth, you exhibited a propensity for engaging in profoundly immoral conduct, specifically targeting and subjecting adolescent boys to various forms of sexual exploitation.” There are six victims, all of whom were minors at the time of their abuse by you.
“They were compelled to endure the consequences of your actions while you continued your life as if nothing occurred, transitioning from one victim to the next.” In their youth, they ought to have been carefree; however, you were depriving them of their innocence and, to some extent, their childhood.
Following the sentencing, DI Iolo Edwards stated: This has been a prolonged and comprehensive investigation into Colin Eamens’ conduct, and we applaud today’s judgement. We anticipate that this statement provides a sense of closure for the victims who have endorsed our investigation from the beginning.
