A convicted Oldham Paedophile sex offender’s, Damien Riley, prison sentence has been augmented following the emergence of an additional victim. Damien Riley, from Ewood, Oldham, was found guilty by a jury in 2021 of 16 instances of inappropriate sexual conduct with four young boys in Oldham during the 1980s, when he was a teenager.

The ex-caregiver was sentenced to 10 years in prison. During sentencing, Judge Angela Nield stated: “The victims of your criminal behaviour were four children, all residing in the same estate during a markedly different era when it was customary for groups of children to play together in the streets.”

“When parents believed, often justifiably, that their children were safe in numbers, the reality in this instance was tragically different.”

“Each individual was unequivocally harmed by that conduct and by their premature and unsuitable exposure to sexual experiences.”

“These young men were integral members of a cohort of children who ought to have been revelling in the pleasures of play with their peers and the games favoured in the streets of Oldham; however, a significantly darker undercurrent permeated that street.”

Subsequent to the 2021 sentencing, an additional victim from the same locality has emerged.

Amy Weir, the prosecutor, stated that Damien Riley, when a teenager, engaged in a sexual act with the boy. In mitigation, Michael Johnson stated that his client was a minor at the time, and the maximum penalty for such acts committed in the 1980s was 12 months in imprisonment.

Judge Nield sentenced him to an additional year in prison, stating: “In 2021, following a trial concerning four distinct complainants who reported analogous behaviours.” I hereby impose a sentence of ten years of incarceration upon you.

The complainant delayed coming forward, and you opted for a trial, which is your prerogative. He was required to provide testimony over a matter that caused him significant distress.

“You had the opportunity to admit your guilt and possibly rectify the situation you currently face.”

Damien Riley received a 12-month sentence to be served consecutively to his existing term for the offence of indecent assault on a minor.

Damien Riley was also prohibited indefinitely from engaging with minors and vulnerable individuals.
