A sex offender, Great Yarmouth Daniel Russell, convicted of raping a small kid in train restrooms has been sentenced to 18 years in prison.

Daniel Russell, 38, from Great Yarmouth, was characterised by the judge as a “dangerous offender” who presents an ongoing threat to children.

Norwich Crown Court was informed that Russell was initially scrutinised by law enforcement in January 2021 when he was apprehended on suspicion of possessing indecent pictures.

During the investigation, the mistreatment of the small child was revealed, and he was charged with rape.

The court was informed that the assaults occurred between 2016 and 2021 on train travels, during which Daniel Russell would escort the youngster to the restrooms to display pornography before attacking her.

In a personal statement presented in court, the victim’s mother described the emotional repercussions the assaults had inflicted on her daughter.

She stated that she is increasingly reserved and anxious in the presence of unfamiliar individuals. She has undergone counselling and is likely to require additional sessions in the future as she matures and has a deeper knowledge of her experiences.

“Upon hearing the verdict, she experienced uninterrupted sleep for the first time in years.” However, we will continue to address this issue for many years, and the true long-term consequences remain uncertain.

The victim’s mother expressed gratitude to the police and other agencies involved in the case for their support.

Daniel Russell received an 18-year jail term and an additional 6 years on license for two counts of raping a kid under 13, inducing a child to observe a sexual act, and producing obscene photos of children.

He was additionally registered on the Sex Offenders Register for life and is subject to an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

At sentencing, Judge David Pugh characterised Daniel Russell as a perilous offender who presented an ongoing threat to children.

Detective Sergeant Mark Carrie of Norfolk Police stated, “The victim has demonstrated remarkable courage in pursuing and obtaining justice.”

Although I recognise that the verdict will not erase her memories of Daniel Russell’s assaults, I really hope that today’s sentencing will offer her further fortitude to reconstruct her life.

“I also hope this outcome will instill confidence in other victims, encouraging them to come forward and ensuring that their reports of similar incidents to the police will be acknowledged.”

Norfolk Police stated that victims should dial 999 in case of an emergency to report a sexual offence.
