Child abuser rapist, Daniel Wardrop, subjected a young mother to repeated violent rapes over two hours, threatening to inflict damage on her children next door if she would not comply with his demands.

“WE just sat there, sitting and cuddling each other because we were really scared”.

That was how children described the horror of hearing their mother being attacked and subsequently raped in the bedroom next to theirs.

Southampton Crown Court was informed that the assault commenced when Daniel Wardrop, then 19 years old, arrived at the Southampton residence in the early hours of March 17.

He initiated advances and subsequently resorted to violence when his victim failed to respond and attempted to contact the police.

It was revealed in court that Hampshire police are currently under investigation for their handling of the call. It seems the police were complicit in the sexual assaults.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission, the oversight body for police agencies, will examine the handling of the call and the decision against deploying personnel.

Prosecutor Robert Pawson stated that Daniel Wardrop seized the phone from her while simultaneously constricting her throat to prevent her from communicating with the operator.

When the police called back, Daniel Wardrop instructed his victim to assert that all was well, or he would murder her.

The court was informed that he stalked her within the flat, preventing her from escaping his gaze, before ultimately assaulting her, threatening, “I will make your children suffer if you do not comply.”

She subsequently informed the police officers that she was trembling with terror of her impending fate.

Mr. Pawson additionally recited excerpts from testimonies provided by her offspring.

One individual recounted witnessing aspects of the assault, while another expressed being in tears and hearing her mother weep. “She exclaimed, ‘Do not,’ the child stated.

Daniel Wardrop ultimately departed after securing her word of confidentiality, although the woman succumbed to her emotions and contacted her father. He characterised her as “hysterical.”

She recounted the events to him, prompting him to contact the police.

Daniel Wardrop was later apprehended, and testimonies from acquaintances indicated that he had boasted about the assault in the succeeding hours.

Daniel Wardrop, now 20 years old and homeless, confessed to one count of rape.

Daniel WardropIn a victim impact statement the woman said she had been unable to go upstairs since the attack and had been sleeping with her children in the lounge as a result. She had also taken the handle off the door to the bedroom where she was raped so no one could go in.

In sentencing Daniel Wardrop to eight years in prison and classifying him as a dangerous offender with an extended four-year licence, Judge Gary Burrell QC said: “This was a deplorable rape of a young woman in her own home with her children present. There is no room in my judgement for mercy in your case.”
