Danny Masterson, a that 70’s Show rapist actor, has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for raping two women. On May 31, a jury convicted him guilty of the crimes he faced.
Masterson’s victims were raped while he was filing a series for the popular show in 2003. Masterson was also accused of having raped a third woman. The charges were dropped because the third allegation could not be resolved unanimously.
The judge stated: “Mr. Masterson, you are not the victim here. Your actions 20 years ago eliminated another person’s choice and voice. Your acts 20 years ago today were criminal, which is why you’re here.
All three women who filed charges against him were Church members, and the Church apparently discouraged them from making reports or coming forward. Masterson, who was involved in the Church of Scientology, was accused by prosecutors of abusing his position inside the Church to avoid accountability and repercussions.
Despite the fact that the crimes occurred 20 years ago, the victims were able to come forward because there is no statute of limitations in California for sexual assault. Masterson was granted release before May 31, but was judged a ‘flight risk’ after being convicted and hauled into custody.
