Paedophile Danny McNaughton, 38, of Wellington Street in Grimsby, was unanimously convicted by a jury of the following offences:

  • Four counts of rape of a child
  • Six counts of sexual activity with a child
  • Three counts of sexual assault of a child under 13
  • Four counts of penetrative sexual activity with a child
  • Causing a child to engage in sexual activity

The Nonce, Danny McNaughton, was handed the sentence following his appearance at Grimsby Crown Court on Thursday 19 December.

Officer in the case Detective Constable Paula Barden from our Protecting Vulnerable People Unit said: “I want to first praise the victims and their families for their bravery in coming forward and helping to put this evil man behind bars.

“Whilst Danny McNaughton pleaded guilty to seven of the offences, he pleaded not guilty to 11 further charges, putting the two victims, and their family, through the horrific ordeal of a five-day trial.

“Whilst the outcome at court doesn’t take away the pain the victims and the family have suffered, I hope publicly highlighting such abhorrent crimes will encourage others to speak out and report crimes of this nature. I also hope that it provides some comfort in knowing Danny McNaughton cannot cause them, or anyone else, any more harm.

“We take reports of sexual assault and sexual offences incredibly seriously and will continue to seek prosecution against anybody who thinks it is okay to commit these types of offences.

“You will be listened to, and we will continue to take action against offenders.”

We have recently launched a campaign alongside Jamie, a sexual abuse survivor, who has waived her right to lifelong legal anonymity to encourage others who have been a victim of any sexual crimes to Tell Someone.

Jamie’s story

“Imagine maggots under your skin eating away slowly at your flesh every day.” – that’s what it can feel like for somebody who has been sexually abused.

This September, one brave survivor has agreed to waive her legal right to anonymity and tell her story on camera to encourage other victims of sexual abuse to tell someone.

When Jamie was ten years old, she was sexually abused by someone she trusted. Last year, her abuser was sentenced to 24 years in prison for nine counts of sexual assault.

Her story is one of trauma, hope and healing and she is ready to share it with the world.
