A man, Darnell McCollins, has been incarcerated for sexually assaulting two girls outside of a courthouse while he was on trial for a separate offence, following the initiation of an investigation.
Darnell McCollins, 24, of Eaton, London, was scheduled to appear at Stafford Crown Court on 3 June of the previous year when he approached two adolescent females and began enquiring about them.
He requested their information and made physical contact with both individuals. He made further advances before both females departed and informed someone of the incident.
We commenced our investigation and apprehended Darnell McCollins the next day. He was interrogated while in detention but refuted the allegations.
Members of our Child Protection Team (CPT) exerted much effort to assist the survivors and to collect the necessary evidence to prosecute Darnell McCollins for his offences.
Darnell McCollins was prosecuted and admitted guilt to sexual assault against a female in a prior hearing. He received a 23-week incarceration sentence at Cannock Magistrates’ Court on 11 March, which will be served consecutively to another sentence he is currently serving.
He was placed on the Sex Offender’s Register for seven years, issued a restraining order against the victims, and mandated to pay £604 in costs.
Detective Inspector Emma Roach, from the CPT, stated: “I am gratified that we successfully collected the evidence required to convict Darnell McCollins of his offences and to assist the survivors to the fullest extent.”
“We are resolute in our commitment to achieve justice for victims of sexual offences in Staffordshire and to take decisive action against the perpetrators.”
