A Lancashire Police officer, Sex Offender Darren Coathup, has forfeited a portion of his pension after confessing to exploiting women who reported domestic abuse “for his own sexual purposes.”

Darren Coathup encountered the two women while serving as a policeman with Lancashire Police and received a two-year prison sentence at Manchester Crown Court in February 2023.

Darren Coathup, aged 39 at the time of his incarceration, will forfeit 65% of his pension for a duration of five years upon being eligible to receive it.

The determination to revoke his pension was executed by the police force and the police and crime commissioner, Clive Grunshaw.

The court was informed that Darren Coathup had communicated with a lady who claimed domestic abuse, thereafter engaging in sexual relations with her.

Mr. Grunshaw stated, “This decision conveys a definitive message that any form of misconduct, particularly that which exploits the vulnerable, will not be tolerated in Lancashire.”

“Pension forfeiture represents a critical measure, demonstrating that individuals entrusted with the responsibility to serve and protect are held to the utmost standards of integrity and accountability; any deficiencies in these standards will be addressed with all available resources.”

Sam Mackenzie, Deputy Chief Constable of Lancashire Police, stated: “Crimes of such reprehensible nature must entail far-reaching repercussions, and it is appropriate that this decision has been made.”

“The public would undoubtedly anticipate our action regarding officers convicted of criminal offences.”
