A devious Halifax Paedophilesexual predator has received an 18-year extended prison sentence for the abuse of a youngster in the Bradford district.

David Hammond, 44, was convicted by a jury at Bradford Crown Court in November for historical offences and was sentenced today via video link to HMP Doncaster, where he was remanded.

David Hammond, residing on Crabtree Street in Halifax, was described as ‘disgusting and wrong’ by his victim in a statement presented in court.

The victim expressed their animosity against him and the nightmares and emotional distress endured thereafter, characterising him as ‘a repugnant and vile individual’ who had removed their happiness.

David Hammond’s attorney, Ian Howard, stated that he is crippled and would encounter significant challenges in prison. He was not receiving any physiotherapy while in detention, which limited his mobility.

Mr. Howard stated that David Hammond was no longer able to live independently, which would limit his capacity to commit similar offences in the future.

However, the trial judge, Recorder David Gordon, characterised Hammond as ‘sexually predatory’ with both capability and shrewdness.

He denied any misconduct, testifying under oath before being unanimously convicted by a jury that found him untrustworthy.

Recorder Gordon stated that David Hammond possessed a longstanding sexual interest in minors. His susceptible victim had been left psychologically traumatised and will endure the repercussions of the assault for many years ahead.

Recorder Gordon indicated that David Hammond exhibited no remorse.

He acknowledged his deteriorating health, having experienced at least one stroke, and was seen in a wheelchair throughout the appearance.

Recorder Gordon determined that David Hammond constituted a dangerous offender as defined by the law. There existed a substantial risk that he would inflict severe harm on children in the future.

The probation report’s contents were deemed ‘disturbing,’ with the author evaluating his future risk as high.

David Hammond’s punishment consists of a 13-year incarceration time followed by a five-year licence, totalling an 18-year extended prison term.

Recorder Gordon informed him that he will serve a minimum of nine years in jail before being eligible for release, and he may potentially be incarcerated for the full duration of 13 years.

He is required to register as a sex offender for an unlimited duration.

A Sexual Harm Prevention Order was issued for life, and a restraining order prohibits Hammond from any form of contact with his victim indefinitely.
