Law enforcement discovered illicit child photos on the device of a registered Edenbridge Paedophile sex offender, David Johnson, during an unannounced inspection of his residence in Edenbridge.
David Johnson was apprehended following notifications from tracking software installed on his phone.
David Johnson was under a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) due to prior convictions in 2021 over the possession of indecent photographs.
The SHPO included numerous safeguards to prevent him from reoffending.
David Johnson was restricted from utilising any gadget capable of internet access unless it was equipped with a web surveillance tool.
He was also required to notify the police of any gadgets in his possession and for their inspection.
On 9 January 2025, cops were alerted to suspected activities associated with one of his phones.
Several days later, they conducted an unannounced visit to David Johnson’s residence near Main Road, Edenbridge.
An examination of the phone’s camera roll resulted in the retrieval of multiple photographs of a very young child in a state of undress.
David Johnson was apprehended, and subsequent searches of the premises resulted in the finding of internet-enabled devices, including a tablet and a television, which he had not disclosed to the police.
The investigation uncovered evidence of other breaches of the SHPO, after the identification of alias names he utilised for websites, including ford19656 and slimguy1965.
He faced charges for producing obscene photos of children, two counts of violating a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), and an additional four counts of noncompliance with sex offender registration requirements.
David Johnson, 60, pleaded guilty and on Monday 2 July was sentenced at Maidstone Crown Court to four years’ imprisonment.
Detective Constable Steph Kirkin said:
‘Sexual Harm Prevention Orders are just one of several tools which help us protect children and other vulnerable people, and which allow us to closely monitor convicted offenders.’
Having been released from prison, David Johnson has demonstrated contempt for the sanctions imposed by the court designed to prevent him from reoffending. He even deleted monitoring software installed on another one of his phones.
‘Johnson is now facing the consequences of his actions and I hope this case demonstrates just how strictly we manage registered sex offenders. Where we see flagrant breaches and fresh offences committed, we will take robust action.’
