A paedophile from the Isle of Wight, the Newport Paedophile, Derek Bayton, apprehended for violating his court order for the second time, will appear before a judge next month.

Derek Bayton, residing on Dodnor Lane in Newport, appeared before the Isle of Wight magistrates on Tuesday, June 3.

The 63-year-old acknowledged noncompliance with the notification obligations of the Sex Offenders’ Register in Newport on May 7.

Prosecutor Lauren McConnell stated that Derek Bayton was a registered sex offender who received a 14-month suspended sentence for three charges of possessing indecent pictures of children in December 2018.

She stated that he was sentenced again in February 2024 to an eight-month prison term, suspended for 24 months, for additional child sexual assault charges.

The court heard he ‘gave into the temptation’ on that occasion, plugging a USB into his computer which contained child sex abuse image, and Derek Bayton was placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for a further ten years.

Ms McConnell said he must report to the police on an annual basis, and on May 7, he was due to register his details with officers, but failed to do so until May 12.

The court heard the offence put him in breach of his order.

Jim Osborne, defending, said Derek Bayton had been looking after his mother, who was now moving into a home, and he simply forgot to register.

Derek Bayton’s case was adjourned to July 4 at the Isle of Wight Crown Court.

Derek Bayton was granted unconditional bail.
