A ‘dangerous’ child sex offender, Dominic Scribbins, has been convicted after a three-year inquiry.
Dominic Scribbins, 39, from Plymouth, was convicted by a jury of 16 charges after a seven-day trial at Bristol Crown Court on Friday, November 29. He was adjudicated guilty on the subsequent charges:
- Eight counts of indecent assault
- Three counts of sexual assault of a child under 13
- Two counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration
- And one count each of assault by penetration, sexual assault and engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child.
The court heard how between 2003 and 2019, Dominic Scribbins had sexually and indecently assaulted several young girls in the Bristol and Dorset area, who were between the ages of four and 14 at the time of the incidents.
Officers first started investigating the case in 2021 when one of the victims came forward and reported non-recent sexual assaults by Dominic Scribbins. Following this, other victims came forward to make their own reports.
Following an extensive investigation, Dominic Scribbinss was arrested on 11 November 2021 and later charged on 31 May last year.
Officer in the case Detective Sergeant Lucy Bryant said: “It has been three years since the victims in this case came forward to the police and I thank them for their bravery and resilience in supporting a prosecution.
“Because of their courage, a dangerous child sex offender has been taken off the streets and, following his sentencing in January 2025, will hopefully be in prison for many years to come.
“Sexual offences against such young and vulnerable members of our society are among the most despicable. Children should be able to trust adults and know they are safe in their company, but Dominic Scribbins brought about only pain and upset for his victims.
“No matter when the abuse happened, if something has happened to you then please report it to us, you will be believed and supported. We are committed to doing whatever is needed to achieve justice for the victims, while also providing and signposting them to safeguarding and support services.”
Dominic Scribbins was found not guilty of one count of sexual assault of a children under 13.
He was remanded into custody and will appear at Bristol Crown Court for sentencing on Monday 13 January next year.
UPDATE 15.01.25
Victims of a “very dangerous man”, Dominic Scribbins, have spoken out after he was jailed for 20 years for a string of sexual offences.
Dominic Scribbins, from Plymouth, was found guilty 16 offences including eight counts of indecent assault, three counts of sexual assault of a child under 13, and two counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration.
He was sentenced at Bristol Crown Court Monday 13 January.
The jury heard how Dominic Scribbins had sexually and indecently assaulted several young girls in the Bristol and Dorset area between 2003-2009. The girls were between the ages of four and 14 years old at the time of the incidents.
In a personal statement, one victim said: “It is still in my head now. I remember it like it was yesterday. It is hard to let what happened to me go and I worry now if it will happen again.
“Even though I know he’s not going to be near me, I always look around for him. I don’t know where he is and I’m always watching my back – he could be anywhere.”
Another victim said: “The action of Dominic Scribbins have greatly affected my life in ways in which no one can truly understand. Since he committed these crimes, I have not really come to terms with it. It created a ripple effect in my life which I know will never go away.
“I was only an innocent child when my childhood was taken from me.
“What Dominic Scribbins did to me made me the person I am today but not in a good way. In fact, it has made the way I live and see the world very unhealthy and a lot of the time sad.
“I have to live with the trauma and repercussions of Dominic Scribbins’ actions for the rest of my life and there is nothing I can do about that, but I can make sure that from this day onwards, no one has to experience the abuse I did because of him, makes all this seem worth it.”
The sentence follows a four-year-long investigation, which started in 2020 after one of his victims came forward and reported a series of non-recent sexual assaults committed by Dominic Scribbins.
Following this, other victims came forward with their own reports. Dominic Scribbins was arrested in 2021 and charges were brought against him in May last year.
