An 82-year-old man was seriously injured when he was hit by a car. Police are appealing for witnesses following the crash in Willingdon Drove, Eastbourne, near the junction with Friday Street, opposite the Langney Shopping Centre, shortly after 5.20pm on Tuesday.
The incident involved a silver Toyota Yaris on the eastbound carriageway.
The 82-year-old pedestrian sustained serious injuries and was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton where he remains, Sussex Police said.
A 64-year-old local man, the driver of the Toyota, was not injured.
The driver of the car involved was arrested.
He was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless or inconsiderate driving, and drug-driving. He has been released under investigation, pending further enquiries.
A force spokesman said: “Officers are investigating the circumstances of the collision and have appealed for witnesses or anyone with relevant information to come forward.
“In particular, anyone with dashcam, CCTV, doorbell or mobile phone footage from the area at the time is asked to come forward.
