A woman committed suicide upon discovering a video of her spouse, Edward Weeks Torfaen rapist, engaging in non-consensual sexual intercourse with her on his mobile device.
Tina Lewis, a 24-year-old woman, was sexually assaulted by Edward Weeks when she was asleep at his residence in Cwmbran, Torfaen, in December.
During the trial at Cardiff Crown Court, it was revealed that Ms Lewis discovered video evidence of the assault on Weeks’ phone the day after he had recorded the crime using motion-sensitive cameras installed in his bedroom.
33-year-old Edward Weeks was sentenced to eight years in prison after confessing to committing rape.
During their five-year on-off relationship, Prosecutor Matthew Cobbe characterised Ms Lewis as having a child-like demeanour and reliant on Edward Weeks.
Ms Lewis, who had autism and was characterised as “extremely susceptible”, visited Weeks’ residence shortly after Christmas. During her stay, Edward Weeks sexually assaulted her while she was asleep.
According to Mr Cobbe, the subsequent procedures seemed to have had the most significant effect on Ms Lewis.
“In the subsequent weeks, she experienced great distress and anxiety regarding both the procedure itself and the impact it would have on the accused,” he stated.
Saffron, the sister of Ms Lewis, expressed the anguish of losing her sister under “highly distressing circumstances”.
According to her, Edward Weeks had assumed the role of Ms Lewis’s primary carer, and she depended on him for many responsibilities.
“The impact on our family has been catastrophic.” “I have misplaced my closest companion,” she expressed.
“Tina was the most influential source of inspiration in my life.”
For several weeks, Julia Cox expressed: “This is a sorrowful instance, and any statements I make to lessen its severity do not diminish its tragic nature.”
According to her, Edward Weeks was also diagnosed with autism, and she characterised his interaction with Ms Lewis as “intricate”.
Edward Weeks confessed to the crimes of rape and assault by penetration, and Judge Jeremy Jenkins characterised his actions as “a highly immoral act”.
In addition to his incarceration, Edward Weekswas indefinitely registered as a sex offender.
