The Sawston Paedophile, Finlay Moorcroft, apprehended with over 1,000 obscene photographs of minors on his phone attempted to assert that an unidentified drug dealer had uploaded them.

Finlay Moorcroft, 23, was apprehended on 17 May of the previous year after authorities connected the dissemination of indecent photos of minors to his email account.

During the search of his residence on High Street, Sawston, officers confiscated two impaired mobile phones.

One of the devices included 1,179 obscene photographs of youngsters and one video. Among these, 112 photos and the video were classified as category A – the most severe classification.

The second device was excessively damaged to recover any information.

Finlay Moorcroft asserted that a drug dealer had repeatedly confiscated his phone and implied that the individual must have uploaded the photographs to the device, however he declined to disclose the person’s identity.

Subsequent analysis of the device confirmed its proximity to Finlay Moorcroft’s residence during the download of some photographs.

Subsequently, law enforcement obtained additional information regarding Finlay Moorcroft, leading to his subsequent arrest.

Authorities confiscated an additional device that included 50 more lewd photographs of minors.

Finlay Moorcroft admitted six counts of making indecent images of children and was jailed for 26 months at Peterborough Crown Court on Wednesday (25 June). He was also given a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and placed on the Sex Offenders Register for ten years.

Detective Sergeant Julia Boon said: “Finlay Moorcroft is a persistent offender who clearly didn’t change his behaviour after he was arrested on the first occasion.

“The images and video found on his devices were abhorrent examples of child abuse. I’m pleased he has now been brought to justice.

“Protecting children is one of our top priorities. We will continue to work tirelessly to do all we can to prosecute those who prey on them.”
