Frank Smith and Leonard Wilson Rapists

Frank Smith and Leonard Wilson raped a teenager at a Kent play park and threatened to harm her family if she reported it to police. Police said she was dragged from a vehicle before the “harrowing” attack.

The victim met Frank Smith and Leonard Wilson at a remote rural location near Jockey Lane, Cranbrook on the evening of August 28, 2018. She bumped her head due to the force with which she was pulled from the vehicle, before being raped by both men.

Frank Smith and Leonard Wilson, who were aged 18 and 17, respectively, at the time of the assault, subsequently intimidated the girl. They made threats to harm her family to prevent her from reporting the incident to the police, Kent Police said.

Frank Smith, of Pluckley Road, Bethersden, was charged with sexual assault and two counts of rape. Leonard Wilson, of Plurenden Road, High Halstow, was charged with rape, two counts of possessing indecent images of a child, and three counts of possessing an extreme pornographic image.

Frank Smith and Leonard Wilson both pleaded not guilty to the charges at Maidstone Crown Court but were each convicted of one count of rape after a trial. On April 9 Smith, now aged 24, was sentenced to three years and nine months in prison and Wilson, aged 23, was sentenced to three years and six months.
