A Grimsby Paedophile, Gary Ward, convicted of 16 sexual offences, including seven counts of rape, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Gary Ward of Grimsby was sentenced for his offences at his appearance at Lincoln Crown Court on Wednesday, 21 May.

The 69-year-old, Gary Ward, perpetrated the acts in the Louth area against a sole victim, including instances when the victim was underage, and was promptly remanded to serve his sentence.

At the conclusion of the hearing, the judge stated that Gary Ward had perpetrated a ‘campaign of rape’ and inflicted ‘serious injury’.

They lauded the victim, noting that the ‘courage demonstrated in reporting the incident to the police and enduring the trial cannot be emphasised.’

Gary Ward received an indefinite sexual harm prevention order and an indefinite restraining order in conjunction with his prison sentence.

Detective Constable Katherine Brennan stated that the sentence underscored the gravity of the offences and commended all who contributed to Ward’s prosecution.

“Gary Ward committed unspeakable crimes over a prolonged period of time, causing great pain and distress,” she said.

“Gary Ward showed an utter disregard for his victim’s humanity and treated them in a way that is wholly unacceptable and shameful.

“The depravity of his crimes is reflected in the sentence he has been given today, which I hope will bring his victim some closure.

“I can’t stress how much courage it took for them to come forward and without their bravery we would not have achieved the justice we have today.

“Thanks to their efforts, and of those working in Lincolnshire Police, Gary Ward is off the streets.

“I’d particularly like to highlight the great work carried out by the case officer and Independent Sexual Violence Advisor – their contribution cannot be overstated.

“I hope this sends out a strong message to both victims and perpetrators – we will fight for justice to be served.”
