The Middlesbrough Paedophile, Pensioner Geoffrey Watkin, 74, was given an extended 20-year sentence for sexually abusing two young girls. Geoffrey Watkin abused the girls of primary school age “in the most appalling way”.
An attack prompted one victim to be physically sick, while the other tried to convince herself she had imagined Geoffrey Watkin repeatedly touching her.
One of the victims was abused more than three decades ago, and the other in more recent years.
Now, adults, they told in statements of the profound effects of Geoffrey Watkin’s behaviour, including flashbacks, loss of confidence and sleep difficulties.
A judge branded Geoffrey Watkin a dangerous offender with “an unhealthy interest in young girls” after he pleaded guilty to six counts of indecent assault and two of rape.
His barrister said his sentence would be Geoffrey Watkin’s first time behind bars, as he had not been caught before, and “a grim time for him in his mid to late 70s”.
Geoffrey Watkin, of Marton Road, Middlesbrough, cried as he received a 16-year prison sentence with an extended four-year licence period.
