A paedophile doctor, Gregory Manson, has been convicted of many sexual offences perpetrated over several years against male patients at the clinic where he was employed in Canterbury.
Gregory Manson was a general practitioner at Cossington House Surgery from 1999 to 2017, during which he conducted unwarranted inspections of male genitalia without providing a chaperone or elucidating the rationale for the procedures. Gregory Manson failed to document in the patient notes that these examinations occurred or to outline any conclusions from them.
An inquiry commenced following the emergence of one victim, leading to the identification of additional victims. Several victims expressed astonishment regarding their experiences, with one articulating feelings of both humiliation and violation.
An expert informed the trial that several examinations lacked medical justification. Certain offences occurred during new patient health assessments, but such evaluations were not mandated.
Bodiam from the Crown Prosecution Service stated: “These patients placed their trust in Gregory Manson as their general practitioner, and he egregiously violated that trust by conducting intimate examinations that were not entirely medically warranted.”
“They described their discomfort at what happened to them and some of them actively tried to avoid seeing Gregory Manson because of their previous experiences with him.
“On several occasions, the victims were not even given the option to consent to the examinations and had their underwear removed with no warning.
“Gregory Manson never explained to the patients what he was doing and why, failing to offer them the opportunity to have a chaperone and not even recording the examinations he had undertaken or any findings from them in the patient notes. This is not what patients should expect from their GPs.”
