McSweeney murdered Ms. Aleena while she was returning home after a night out in Ilford, east London, during the early hours of June 26, 2022. This incident occurred only nine days after his release from prison.

The 31-year-old individual, Hayley Jones, made a virtual appearance at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court, while Jones attended the court in person. Jones was dressed in a grey cardigan and a black t-shirt, with her blonde hair tied up in a ponytail.

Hayley Jones, a resident of Strood, Kent, is alleged to have engaged in behaviour that can be characterised as a violation of the public’s confidence while in a relationship with McSweeney at HMP Belmarsh from March 6, 2023, until April 7, 2023.

McSweeney has been relocated to HMP Long Lartin, a Category A prison in Worcestershire.

This morning, District Judge Andrew Sweet determined that the issue was too grave to be handled in a magistrates court. The hearing was postponed until September 25, 2024, when Jones will attend the Woolwich Crown Court.

Hayley Jones, devoid of expression, sat in the dock and only spoke to confirm her name and address.

McSweeney, donning a grey sweatshirt, rested his chin on his hand while his other arm remained folded as he rapidly verified his date of birth.

Hayley Jones is alleged to have intentionally and, without a valid purpose or justification, engaged in misconduct that violated the public’s confidence. This misconduct involved having an inappropriate connection with Jordan McSweeny.

McSweeney is alleged to have engaged in conduct that could have encouraged or assisted Jones’ offence by having an inappropriate connection with the defendant. At the same time, she was employed as a prison workshop instructor at HMP Belmarsh.

Hayley Jones concealed her face when she made an appearance in court.

She is accused of misconduct while holding a public office from March 6, 2023, until April 7, 2023.

Hayley Jones has been granted conditional bail, which includes the requirement that he refrain from contacting McSweeney or visiting the prison where McSweeney is currently incarcerated.

Judge Sweet informed the defendant that their case would be transferred to the Crown Court, and their next hearing at Woolwich is scheduled for 25 September.

‘You are currently under conditional bail, which means you cannot contact Jordan McSweeney directly or indirectly. Additionally, you must refrain from visiting any prison where he is currently being held.’

The case follows a jury inquest’s ruling in June that identified shortcomings ‘across several agencies’ as contributing factors to Zara’s death.

McSweeney, a highly active criminal with a history of 28 convictions for 69 offences, was recently freed from prison on parole. However, just nine days after his release, he violated the terms of his parole and was sent back to jail on June 22nd.

The police were granted the authority to apprehend him 48 hours later; however, bureaucratic delays prevented them from doing so before his fatal assault on the law graduate.

In June, a jury inquest concluded that errors in various agencies caused the death of Zara.

McSweeney launched a surprise attack on Ms Aleena, striking her forcefully in the back of the head. He then forcibly moved her into a nearby driveway and proceeded to kick her while she was lying on the ground repeatedly. This incident occurred in June 2022 when Ms Aleena returned home after a night out.

While the woman was dying, the assailant sexually violated her and then took her handbag, cell phone, and keys. Subsequently, he departed but promptly returned to administer the decisive and lethal strikes.

According to the court, Ms Aleena passed away in the hospital due to a brain injury caused by blunt force and compression on her neck.
