Henry Smith Leicester Rapist has been imprisoned for raping his former spouse and also using coercive and controlling actions over her following their split.
When Henry Smith, thirty-nine-year-old, showed up at Leicester Crown Court yesterday ( Tuesday 15 June), he also admitted guilt to one crime of burglary — in which he had taken money from her Wigston house.
April 2021 saw him separate from his victim, but they still saw each other sporadically.
Henry Smith’s victim left her house to meet family on June 11, 2022, but when she returned, she discovered cash had been taken from her address. Later, police detained Smith after a family member suspected him was contacted.
This subsequently resulted in her reporting other offences he had done against her to the police.
She informed investigators that Henry Smith sexually assaulted her in October 2021 when they were together in East Goscote, using physical aggression to carry out the crime. She further claimed he had behaved in a dominating and coercive manner over her both before and following their divorce.
She said Henry Smith had limited her contact with friends and relatives, followed her to ATMs, and had her withdraw money for him, thereby essentially dictating how she led her life.
Of no known residence, Henry Smith had contested the charges but entered a guilty plea on the second day of his trial. He received a consecutive three-year sentence for controlling and coercive actions after being imprisoned for eleven years for rape. The acts also caused him to violate a 10-month suspended sentence he had previously received for the sexual assault of another female, therefore rendering a total of 14 years and ten months imprisonment.
Additionally, he was sentenced to three years for burglary and would be served concurrently.
Henry Smith is subject to an indefinite restraining order forbidding him from contacting the victim or her family and was put on the sex offenders register for life.
