A 36-year-old Blackpool paedophile, Ian Leyland, has been incarcerated after being apprehended by ‘paedophile hunters’ for sexually grooming a juvenile boy online.

The individual Ian Leyland conversed with on social media, whom he believed to be a minor, was in fact an adult impersonating a youngster for the activist organisation that subsequently alerted law enforcement.

Ian Leyland, a registered sex offender residing on Coronation Street, Blackpool, pleaded guilty to two counts of attempting to induce a boy aged 13 to 15 to engage in sexual activity without penetration, an attempted violation of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for attempting to communicate with a boy under 15, and six violations of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

Ian Leyland received a sentence of 12 years, comprising four years of incarceration followed by an extended licence of an additional eight years.

Ian Leyland was additionally subjected to an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order at his appearance at Preston Crown Court on Friday, May 23.

Det Con Helen Helme, of Lancashire Police’s Sexual or Violent Offenders team, said: “Ian Leyland clearly poses a risk to males, especially teenage boys as he has engaged in highly explicit sexual conversations when he had clearly been told the age of the person he thought he was talking to.

“I welcome this sentence which should help protect vulnerable people from Ian Leyland’s lewd sexual desires for some years to come.”
