Two British men attempted to kill a child. Ismail Hussain and Adam Mehmood, have been sentenced to over 30 years in prison for perpetrating a brutal assault on a young boy in Coventry. Ismail Hussain and Adam Mehmood assaulted the 15-year-old boy in Foleshill, employing both punches and stabbing.

According to West Midlands Police, Ismail Hussain and Adam Mehmood, accompanied by a 17-year-old male who was 16 at the time of the stabbing, were equipped with knives as they assaulted the victim multiple times before absconding from the location. The incident occurred on February 3 of this year in a park located off Kitchener Road.

The police reported that the 15-year-old victim emerged from the park and fell, while bystanders administered first aid until assistance arrived. Ismail Hussain enticed him to the park by calling and requesting his presence, according to the jury’s testimony.

When the teenage boy arrived, he was greeted by Adam Mehmood and the 17-year-old boy, who cannot be named. A few minutes later, Ismail Hussain arrived and the mood immediately became hostile, with the 19-year-old pulling out a knife and stabbing the 15-year-old.

Ismail Hussain was then backed up by Adam Mehmood, who joined in on the horrific attack, West Midlands Police said. Thankfully, the young victim has since recovered from his injuries.

Officers conducted extensive enquiries and arrested the three-strong group within weeks of the attack taking place, West Midlands Police said. CCTV was used to build a case against the group, who were all charged and subsequently convicted.

It formed one of the largest investigations the Coventry LPA has carried out since moving to its new operating model in 2023. Hussain and Mehmood were convicted of attempted murder and possession of a blade, while the third offender was convicted of wounding, possession of a blade and perverting the course of justice.

Ismail Hussain, of Curzon Avenue, Coventry, was jailed for 19 years, and Mehmood, of Durbar Avenue, Coventry, was sentenced to 15 years in prison at Warwick Crown Court on Friday (October 11). While the 17-year-old received a two-year in-custody training order, West Midlands Police said.

Detective Inspector Sherrie Kimberley, from Coventry Police, said: “Our officers worked quickly and effectively to promptly trace those who were involved in this savage attack, and there is no place for such extreme violence in this city. We are grateful the victim was not more seriously injured.

“We will not condone the carrying of weapons or such disorder within Coventry, and Ismail Hussain and Adam Mehmood will quite rightly spend time behind bars, these convictions will undoubtedly have an impact on their lives for the foreseeable future.

“Thankfully, such excessive violence in Coventry is not reflective of this great city where so many happily and safely live, work and socialise.”
