An individual, James Davies Swansea rapist, who feigned the presence of post-traumatic stress disorder proceeded to physically strike a woman in the face and commit a sexual assault against her within a hotel located in Swansea. On August 19, 2022, James Davies accompanied a woman to the Grand Hotel, where they engaged in consensual sexual activity. However, the woman fell asleep and later woke up to find Davies, who had consumed cocaine earlier that evening, aggressively pacing the floor.
During the trial at Swansea Crown Court, it was shown that the defendant’s facial expression altered, and he started speaking with an Irish accent. This behaviour was attributed to his claim of experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder. During the court proceedings, it was revealed that the defendant claimed to have served in the RAF and experienced a traumatic event resulting in post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). However, police investigations later determined that this narrative was untrue.
The perpetrator, aged 36, James Davies, proceeded to strike the victim in the face and issued threats while coercing her to engage in oral sexual activity against her will despite her explicit objections. According to the court testimony, it was stated that he was also involved in the act of urinating on her. The incident was reported to the police, who promptly arrived at the hotel and interviewed the victim. She was sent to Morriston Hospital to receive medical care for her injuries, which consisted of facial swelling, as well as swelling in the eye and jaw.
The court was presented with a victim impact statement detailing the consequences of her traumatic experience. She expressed her desire for you to come to terms with the impact of your actions on her and to always bear in mind that she is currently content and in good health, with a remarkable network of support. I will inevitably endure the presence of the recurring memories, although they will consistently serve as a reminder of the resilient and brave lady I am evolving into.
James Davies, who does not have a permanent residence, appeared at Swansea Crown Court for sentencing after admitting to the possession of cocaine, two instances of actual bodily harm, two cases of rape, and assault by penetration.
According to Robin Rouch, representing James Davies, there has been a significant and thoughtful contemplation over the past year. The sentence will be healthy, whatever. He is currently serving his initial custodial sentence and has been placed on a counselling list. Additionally, he has requested to consult with a doctor.
Judge Geraint Walters, in his sentencing of James Davies, characterised his actions as “nothing short of psychotic” and stated that the incident was “extremely frightening”. James Davies is required to register as a sex offender permanently and is subject to a lifelong restraining order that prohibits any contact with his victim. He received a prison sentence of 11 years.
