A former police officer, Jason Krasley, previously terminated from his position as an investigator at the US Centre for SafeSport owing to theft claims during a cocaine operation, has been re-arrested and is now confronting charges of rape and sex trafficking.

Jason Krasley, formerly an officer in Allentown, Pennsylvania, was apprehended on Friday and charged with felony rape and involuntary sexual servitude for offences allegedly committed between 2011 and 2015 during his tenure on the police force, as stated by the district attorney’s office.

Jason Krasley, who left the police force in 2021, joined the SafeSport Centre but was dismissed last year after allegations surfaced regarding his role in the loss of $5,500 during a cocaine raid.

The current arrest prompts enquiries over the vetting procedures employed by SafeSport, the organisation responsible for investigating sensitive sexual abuse accusations in Olympic and grassroots sports. The organisation, established in 2017 and located in Denver, engages investigators, including ex-police officers, to address misconduct cases.

Ju’Riese Colon, CEO of SafeSport, conveyed his indignation regarding the allegations in a statement to The Associated Press, asserting, “I am appalled that a former staff member has been accused of such egregious acts during his prior position as a police officer. We uphold the highest standards for all staff, as the protection of athletes is our paramount concern.”

The organisation has commenced a third-party audit of the cases overseen by Jason Krasley during his tenure. In one instance, a case he managed was reallocated following his arrest for theft. Another claimant sought to have their case reopened after the arrest and was advised by SafeSport that the issue was already under examination.

Jason Krasley is charged with felony rape, involuntary sexual servitude, felony kidnapping, involuntary deviant sexual intercourse, witness intimidation, and a misdemeanour allegation of criminal coercion.

Jason Krasley is mentioned in a whistleblower case initiated by two Allentown police officers last year, alleging extensive corruption within the department.

In a separate incident, Kevin Weaver, an active Allentown police officer, was arrested on Friday and charged with criminal rape and involuntary sexual servitude. Weaver has been placed on administrative leave while an inquiry is ongoing.
