A Paedophile from Wolverhampton, John Harris, has received a 12-year prison sentence for child sexual assault occurring in the 1970s.
John Harris, 64 years old, was found guilty of nine charges after his victim assisted authorities in building a case against him.
John Harris was found guilty at Wolverhampton Crown Court of eight charges of rape and one count of engaging in sexual intercourse with a girl under the age of 13, with the offences occurring in 1976. In addition to the incarceration, he has been placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life.
Detective Inspector Emma Jobson, from our specialised non-recent rape and serious sexual offences unit, stated: “All our cases commence with the individual who endured the abuse, and it is this woman’s resilience and courage that has led to John Harris’s conviction for crimes committed many years ago.”
“Despite the passing of time, we have the commitment and expertise to help identify and then trace crucial evidence which has seen this perpetrator being successfully prosecuted.
“In this case, as with many others which date back years, the laws and legislation which were in force at the time have to be adhered to.
“But that does not prevent us from being able to develop an investigation which sees offenders convicted years after the abuse.”
