John Sturgeon - Rapist
John Sturgeon - Rapist

Rosyth Rapist John Sturgeon was sentenced to eight years in jail after being convicted of a string of sexual abuse crimes throughout the county.

The 41-year-old Nonce, John Sturgeon, preyed on both victims, repeatedly raping them in Kilwinning, Irvine, and Kilmarnock.

The property manager, John Sturgeon, also called them derogatory names, restricted their movements, and monitored their phone calls.

When he was convicted guilty at Glasgow’s High Court last month, jurors heard that he treated one person like a “dog or slave” by continuously snapping his fingers to get his attention.

John Sturgeon disputed the claims during the trial.

Giving evidence on the day he was to marry, he claimed the victims were “describing someone he is not”.

John Sturgeon was also found guilty of attempting to rape the latter victim. The offences happened between 2018 and 2021.

He also raped the first woman in a holiday lodge near Dundee.

John Sturgeon, who had previously held top positions in the hospitality industry, knew the first victim but reconnected with her via Instagram.

She quickly suffered at his hands. He would torment her by insulting her appearance, harassing her by phone, text, and email, and limiting her ability to see relatives and friends.

Jurors heard last month about a video recording that showed John Sturgeon making “rude and pretty offensive remarks” to the woman.

He also struck the woman and injured her by throwing a cell phone at her.

During his testimony, Gary Allan, John Sturgeon’s KC, questioned him about the rape claims.

However, John Sturgeon insisted, “I have never demanded anything in a sexual way.”

The second woman faced a similar ordeal.

“Were you trying to treat her like some sort of dog or slave by clicking your fingers at her?” Mr Allan asked him at one point.

John Sturgeon responded, “Definitely not.”

The tribunal also heard testimony that he coerced her into participating in a “rape role play”.

John Sturgeon told the court: “This is a total fabrication. It didn’t happen.

Prosecutors say he also forced the victim to email him explicit images of herself and make an intimate video. Sturgeon also threatened to make a false report to police about the woman.

Mr Allan questioned John Sturgeon if he was lying whilst in the witness box.

He responded, “Definitely not. They are attempting to define me as something I am not.

“For some strange reason, I am sitting here listening to two women describe someone who is not me.”

However, jury found him guilty of ten crimes.

He was convicted of raping and sexually assaulting both, as well as hostile behaviour towards the couple.

John Sturgeon, formerly of Rosyth, Fife, returned to the High Court on Wednesday, July 3, for sentencing.

Detective Constable John Shaw of the Ayrshire Domestic Abuse Investigation Unit hailed his eight-year prison sentence and praised the complainants in this instance for their courage in coming forward.

He stated, “John Sturgeon is an abusive guy who showed no remorse for his violent and abusive actions towards these ladies.

“I’d want to applaud the women for their courage in coming out during the investigation. Their information was critical in helping us develop a case against him, and I hope this conclusion provides them with some closure.

“If you are experiencing or have experienced any form of violence or sexual abuse, please report it.
