A married scout leader in Ilkeston, Jonathan Craven Alvaston Paedophile, was caught with hundreds of sick child abuse images. Nottingham Crown Court heard how police found more than 150 of the most severe category A indecent images, which showed children as young as three being sexually assaulted or raped when they seized devices from Jonathan Craven.
Detectives also found that the 44-year-old, Jonathan Craven, experienced sexual enjoyment from viewing extreme pornographic videos of people having sex with canines.
Now, he has moved from the town to Derby and lost his position in the Derby scouts, his wife, and his former good character. Having been spared immediate arrest, he dressed in a mask (to disguise his face) and baseball cap before leaving the court building.
Recorder Stuart Sprawson said, after gifting him a 12-month jail sentence, suspended for 18 months: “It is sad that someone at the age of 44, who has no previous convictions, finds themselves in front of the courts like this, and I am disappointed to hear your marriage has come to an end as a result of this.”. Why the Judge would be disappointed in him was not stated in court.
Lauren Butts, prosecuting, said police discovered a KIK online chat account connected to Jonathan Craven’s IP address, and so got a warrant to investigate his then Ilkeston address on February 16, 2022. She added: “His wife and three sons were present, and various devices were seized.
“Of relevance, there was an Asus Zen mobile phone and a Dell PC tower. A forensic assessment of the mobile phone device identified 158 category A, which included 60 still photographs and 98 films involving youngsters as young as three.
Of the 96 Category B entries, 62 were photographs and 34 videos featuring children as young as four; of the 150 Category C entries, 135 were images and 15 videos featuring children as young as five up to 13. Five very graphic pornographic films with dogs also exist.
“In an interview, he gave largely ‘no comment’ answers – certainly to any relevant questions.”
Now of London Road, Alvaston, Jonathan Craven admitted one count of possession of extreme pornographic images and three counts of indecent images of children between May 1, 2019 and February 16, 2022.
The defendant’s suspended sentence included orders from the judge to complete 100 hours of unpaid work and show attendance at 20 rehabilitation sessions under probation. He also assigned him a 10-year sexual harm prevention order and registered him as a sex offender.
Record Sprawson also instructed Jonathan Craven to pay £150 for the prosecution expenses. Simon Stevens, mitigating, reported that this offending had caused his client’s marriage to fall apart.
“We are aware of the case involving Jonathan Craven,” a Scout spokesman stated in the following sentence. It is not clear if Jonathan Craven will lose his position in the Scouts wholly or whether he will get offered a position in another area.
