Two schoolboys victims of torture and sexual assault by Church of England priest Jonathan Graves saw him found guilty of the atrocities carried out in the 1980s and 1990s
Using belts and straps, 60-year- Jonathan Graves of Eastbourne, East Sussex, restrained the youngsters, aged between 12 and 14, then beat them.
He was at St Luke’s Church in Stone Cross’s vicar then.
Having been found guilty at Hove Crown Court of twelve offences between 1987 and 1992, Jonathan Graves will be sentenced on Monday.
Following a nine-day trial, Jonathan Graves, of Jervis Avenue, was cleared of five comparable allegations, including one offence of indecent assault on a fifty-year-old woman in 2002.
The court listened to how he mistreated the lads, gave them drinks, and misled them into engaging in horrific forfeit games.
Jonathan Graves served as St Luke’s Church in Stone Cross’s vicar during the attacks.
Jonathan Graves originally came under police custody in 2005 after one allegation.
Three years later, he was temporarily barred from serving Sussex churches.
Sussex Police Public Protection Command’s Det Insp Jon Gross said the past had “caught up” with Jonathan Graves.
“Based on the facts in this case, he chose his victims and befriended them before mercilessly attacking them for his sexual enjoyment.
“His atrocities have affected the people he mistreated long ago.
“The psychological scars of the abuser being a trusted and powerful person in each of the victims’ lives have surely added to the suffering resulting from the sexual abuse itself.”
