A child molester paedophile, Joseph John Hilton from Bodmin, currently incarcerated for sexual assaults will receive an additional 14-year sentence after more details of his heinous acts have emerged. A court was informed that Joseph John Hilton sexually assaulted his young victim on at least eight occasions.
The 36-year-old, Joseph John Hilton, attended sentencing at Truro Crown Court today (Thursday, April 17) after being convicted of three counts of raping a child under 13, as well as an additional count indicating more than five other offences, following a trial earlier this year in which he denied all charges.
Joseph John Hilton, originally from Bodmin and currently incarcerated at HM Prison Whatton in Nottinghamshire, was found guilty of repeatedly raping his victim. Joseph John Hilton is currently serving a ten-year term for sexual offences, having been convicted in 2019 for grooming a kid over the course of a year.
Today, a judge was informed that Joseph John Hilton perpetrated multiple rapes on the victim in this case, all of which he continues to refute. In 2019, he was convicted of two counts of oral rape, two charges of sexual conduct with a child, and two counts of enticing a juvenile to participate in sexual activity, to which he pleaded guilty.
During mitigation, the court was informed that Joseph John Hilton was experiencing depression at the time of his offences due to prior duty in Afghanistan. His counsel stated that he has sought assistance during his incarceration, but the judge informed her that there was “no correlation” between his mental health and his criminal behaviour.
Sentencing, His Honour Judge Simon Carr said Joseph John Hilton had plenty of opportunity at his previous trial to admit to these further crimes but did not do so. “One of the striking features to me having heard the trial was the brutality of what the defendant described [as you] treating [them] as an object or a toy.
“The nature of the rapes showed total disregard for [their] thoughts and feelings and emotions.” He said the offending would not have stopped had it not been for the victim’s “enormous courage”.
He said while there were no victim impact statements he was able to see the “enormous damage” done which was “made clear to everyone” at trial. “You were asked in simple terms in 2018 whether any of the abuse included vaginal rape and you said no,” he told Joseph John Hilton. “You lied to the police hoping the sentence, although for serious offences, would be a lesser sentence.”
Joseph John Hilton was told he showed “no remorse” and was sentenced to 14 years in prison to be served concurrently with his other sentence from today.
