The Bury Rapist, Joseph Yuen, born on April 29, 1994, residing on Bournville Drive, was sentenced to ten years’ imprisonment for rape.

The rape was reported to law enforcement as a historical offence in January 2021, with the incidents transpiring in the preceding months.

The woman was repeatedly raped, frequently while she was intoxicated and would awaken during the assault.

Subsequent text exchanges between the perpetrator and the victim revealed that Yuen made self-incriminating admissions regarding certain acts, expressing remorse for his actions.

During a trial earlier this year, Yuen was convicted of two charges of rape.

He received a 10-year prison sentence at Minshull Street Crown Court yesterday (Thursday 3 October 2024).

DC Leacy said: “Firstly I would like to thank the victim for coming forward and reporting these incidents to the police. This was a difficult investigation and as a force, we commend every victim for their bravery and strength in doing the difficult thing of reporting it in the first place.

“The victim found the courage to come forward in 2021, and Yuen was arrested not long after. Yuen denied all the offences put to him and accepted making the apologetic texts, but stated these were not actual admissions of guilt.

“This sentencing should provide the victim with some closure that Yuen is behind bars.”
